Bio-Gulf Sdn Bhd was established as a biotechnology company to take advantage of our Malaysian government’s tax incentives and the rich inherent floral diversity of our tropical rainforests.

It is has been estimated that our rainforests house over 15,000 different species of plants! (By comparison, Europe, whose size is 20 times bigger than Malaysia, has only approximately 5,000 varieties.)

Many of our local plants have been extracted for the production of herbs and nutritional supplements for a wide variety of illnesses and medical conditions, such as diabetes, impotence, HIV, cancer, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Among the very well-known plant species are Eurycoma Longifolia and Ocimum Sanctum, Ganoderma Lucidum and Phyllanthus Niruri. Another specie, Calophyllum lanigerum var. austrocoriaceum, which previously had no known use, is now regarded as one of the three plants capable of slowing down or eventually curing the much-dreaded AIDS.

So it comes as no surprise that many international biotech companies now regard Malaysia as the primary source of medicinal plants.
